La Fondation Cognito aims to let people discover history through comic books. One of the methods put in place to achieve this mission is to award prizes to comics relating to historical facts or those which include history.
The Bande Dessinée Historique Belge prize is given out each year in an open evening at the Salon du Livre Belge at the Centre Culturel d’Uccle. The prize is awarded to a comic published by a Belgian publishing house, and at least one of the authors must be Belgian. Since 2014, the Fondation Privée Cognito have also awarded a Prix de la Bande Dessinée Historique Européenne. All comic books published in the French language in the last twelve months before the submission date are eligible for this prize.
The Prix de la Bande Dessinée Historique Européenne 2014 was given to the winner at the Foire du Livre de Bruxelles.
La fondation Cognito has also published the Trésor des Martyrs, which is about the life of Dioclétien. This album has been written by Gilles Chaillet, and illustrated by Christophe Ansar.
