In 2016, l’Institut supérieur de traducteurs et interprètes became, with l’Institut Cooremans, the Département de traduction et interprétation of the new Faculté de Lettres, traduction et communication (LTC) at the l’Université libre de Bruxelles.
As TERMISTI was not of sufficient size to form a facultative research centre within the folds of this university, it decided, after a period of reflection beginning in 2016, to found a new centre of research, with a wider range of competences. It now welcomes around thirty researching teachers, teachers and doctoral students from all departments of the Faculté LTC, around three main areas of research:
- The science of translation and interpreting;
- The teaching of languages, cultures and literature;
- The workings of languages, and aids to translation.
The bigger centre has been named TRADITAL, for translation, interpreting, teaching and automatic treatment of languages. TERMISTI will continue along its path as a research group specialised in terminology, likely to bring scientific support to active researchers in the three areas of research at the centre.
